West Virginia University (Morgantown) has an opening
for a graduate assistantship in clarinet, beginning August 2020
Dear Clarinet Colleagues,
It is my pleasure to announce that the School of Music at West Virginia University has an opening for a graduate assistantship in clarinet, beginning August 2020. This will be for a highly qualified student working towards a DMA or MM degree. The assistantship duties include performing in the WVU Graduate Wind Quintet, assisting the clarinet studio, and other responsibilities that match up with the student’s skills and interests and the needs of the School of Music. These duties could include teaching aural theory, recording live concerts, large ensemble administration, etc. The Graduate Assistantship includes waiver of full WVU tuition (does not include College of Creative Arts tuition, university fees, or applied fees), a stipend of at least $13,500, and health benefits.
If you have any students or know anyone who might be interested, please ask them to contact me at john.weigand@mail.wvu.edu.
My studio phone number is (304) 293-4893.
Sincerely,
Dr. John Weigand

U.S. Navy Band Clarinet Day is an annual event that features a mix of performances, lectures and masterclasses designed to inspire and educate clarinetists of all ages. This one-day event is typically held each fall in the Washington, D.C., area. This year’s events take place Nov. 16, 2019, featuring guest artist Bil Jackson, of Vanderbilt University.
All registrants have the opportunity to play side-by-side with members of the Navy Band clarinet section in the large Festival Clarinet Choir. For early registrants, a limited number of lesson times are also available for one-on-one clarinet instruction. Another highlight is the Joint Service Recital, an experience unique to Navy Band Clarinet Day, which showcases performances by clarinetists in the premier bands of the Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines. Participants also have the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of clarinet-related vendors.
Featured guest artists and clinicians in recent years have included Sean Osborne, Richie Hawley, Ricardo Morales, Eugene Mondie, Jeremy Reynolds, Larry Combs, and Julie DeRoche.
Registration for Clarinet Day will open one month prior to the event. For more information on this year’s Clarinet Day, please continue to check here for updates or follow the Navy Band’s social media accounts.
