2014 CLARINET CONVENTION SPECIAL GUESTS :

will give master classes and play a recital including Boulez "Domaines". ROMA CAFOLLA composer and music educationalist - has written much new repertoire for the clarinet to be recorded in April '14 with Virtuosi LANA TROTOVSEK and YOKO MISUMI who will be guest srtists at the Convention giving premieres of some of the works with Leslie and giving master classes to trios. Virtuoso violinist Lana recently returned from huge success playing Prokofiev violin concerto no.1 with Valery Gergiev and the Marinsky orchestra will offer individual coaching after the trio classes to all violinists attending.

ROMA CAFOLLA Roma wrote a concerto for Leslie premiered in Wales by him some years ago and reviewed for CASS by Alistair Logan (see review in press releases). Roma has written many more beautiful pieces for Leslie. He intends to record the these new works in April this year at Nimbus Studios Wyastone Estate near Monmouth.

 

CHRISTOPHER BALL's music published by June Emerson Edition now on latest syllabus of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music .Christopher Ball's beautiful Concerto for Clarinet recorded by Leslie Craven on the Quantum label is now on the grade 7 list of the ABRSM (first movement with cadenza) and also his arrangement of the Folk Song "Over the Hills and far Away" is on the grade 5 list (recorded by Leslie for Clarinet Classics on the disc "Expressions". Clips of both can be sampled on CD page on this site)
Christopher has in addition, very recently written a clarinet quintet recorded by Leslie in September last year.

CLARINET SYMPOSIUM, MAY 10, 2014

Welcome to the Clarinet Symposium! We are proud to present two of the world's greatest living legends of the clarinet, Theodore Johnson with The Cleveland Orchestra (retired) and Stanley Drucker with The New York Philharmonic (retired). Tom Reed, Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music at Ashland University will present a bass clarinet class. This is an educational event, not just listening to clarinet performances. All participants will rehearse twice and perform in a master clarinet choir conducted by Theodore Johnson. There will also be a master class on the Fundamentals of Clarinet and a master class where you will listen to conservatory students who are on the cuff of starting their professional careers. I invite you to look over our website and then sign up on our secured site. We ask that you fill out our short questionnare. After you register, you can print out your receipt to use as identification on May 10, 2014. You will also receive an email acknowledgement. We will send you a reminder a couple days before the symposium. The registration fee will include lunch and dinner and is non-refundable.

Remember to bring your instrument and a music stand, both clearly labeled.

At the end of the second meeting of the IV International Clarinet Seminar, there will be the possibility, that Professor

 

 Yehuda Gilad will select a talented clarinetist to continue clarinet studies at the University of Southern of California (USC)

 in Los Angeles on the next courses. It will be the student responsibility to follow the regular admission process that USC

 establish for international students. The student might be recipient of a partial scholarship from USC in accordance to the

 degree that he or she would attend.

2014 Woodwinds (Oboe, Flute and Clarinet)

NSAL invites woodwind (oboe, flute and clarinet) artists to compete in the 2014 NSAL Music: Woodwind Competition.

Contestants must first compete on the chapter level. To compete at the chapter level, submit a completed application to the chapter that is closest to your home or school. Chapter contact information is listed in “Contact a Chapter” (see link below left). The first place winner at the chapter level may then proceed to the national competition. Participants compete for a first place award of $10,000, and a series of other awards. Local chapters will pay travel, hotel, and conference registration expenses for the chapter winner to attend the National Competition.

The 2014 National Woodwinds competition will be held at the West Virginia Cultural Center in Charleston, West Virginia from May 13 – 17, 2014
